Things that were always there . . . the PIPs . . .
The Man had a compass, two oars, one mast and sails if and when there was wind, one hand line for bait and one jig, but foremost, the Conch with the broken pit to call the mother ship or his fellows (camaradas, the nautical term for companions of other dories ), when or if, the fog settled and he could not see them, nor the mother ship . . .after 10 hours alone. Of course there was the bartedouro and bucket to empty the excess water on board. The theoretical max charge was 150 kg of cod, or rather much more as you will see from existing documents . . reproduced in next pictures.
