Dedication of the Milton Holland marker, Nov 11, 2013, at the Athens County Fairgrounds; the site where Holland recruited what became Company C of the 5th United States Colored Infantry. More than 125 African American men joined the Union Army at this location in Athens, Ohio, in 1863. Holland went on to receive the Medal of Honor for his gallant action at the Battle of New Market Heights (Chaffin's Farm).
