Loco BB18¼ 1079 hauls a train of heritage timber carriages out of the Lockyer Valley on its way up the range to Toowoomba in conjunction with its annual Carnival of Flowers. The heritage diesel was supposed to assist but failed to start. The train has paused here at Murphys Creek, a diesel came down the range to assist up it the steeper part of the climb. September 2014.

Nice looking loco, but a strange - to UK eyes - class designation; 18 and a quarter. Does it signify a rebuild of a Class 18?

Nup! Cylinder diameter in inches... Things can be different in Queensland, Australia.
And BB because it's an improved B.
And B because it has 6 coupled wheels, an 8 coupled is a C.

Thanks for looking and commenting.
