A Danish smallholder family, 1912
A smalholder family posing for the travelling photographer in their Sunday best. Hans Jørgensen with his wife Birthe and children Hans and Marie.
Hans Jørgensen did not have enough land to the sustain a family, but worked on neighbouring farms to make a living.
The daughter Marie never maried, but stayed all her life in the old house without any modern conveniences. She had all kinds of casual jobs like washing and sowing and when my parents moved to the village, she also came to work in their market garden.
She was also our family's occasional babysitter and it is actually her pulling the sledge on the picture I posted yesterday... ;)
Hans Jørgensen (1859-1913), Birthe Sofie Hansen (1869-1948?). Hans Kristen Johannes Jørgensen (1904-?). Ane Marie Jørgensen (1905-1978).
