Prayer wheels
According to Buddhist tradition and belief, prayer wheels are used to accumulate wisdom and merit (good karma) and to purify evil (bad karma). Important texts are written on the wheels and spinning them is believed to garner as much good karma as reading the inscriptions aloud. This photograph was taken at Swayambhunath, the Monkey Temple, complex overlooking the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Swayambhunath is an ancient religious complex consisting of a stupa, a number of shrines and temples and a Tibetan monastery, museum and library.
