Clouds and Weather
Rainbow in the morning...
A quick grab shot of an early morning rainbow taken through the glass of an upstairs window in my house in Sheffield. There was a short, sharp, shower a minute or so later. The view is to the north west.

View over Loch Sligachan to the island of Raasay from the ferry terminal at Sconser on the island of Skye. The prominent flat-topped summit on the skyline is Dùn Caan (444m), the highest point on Raasay.

View west from Ganavan Bay, near Oban, over the Firth of Lorne to the island of Mull (left of centre). The low strip of land to the right of centre is Lismore Island, with the mountains of the Morven peninsula on the sky line.

I liked the lines of convergence made by the new growing crops and the banks of cloud illuminated by the mid-afternoon February sun.

Stanage Edge south end from Burbage Edge

The southern end of Stanage Edge viewed from Burbage Edge. All the rocks in the photo are formed from the Chatsworth Grit (Namurian). The foreground rocks at the northern end of the Burbage Valley are at a lower elevation because of a fault between there and Stanage Edge.
Nacreous clouds from Whirlow
Some parts of the UK had a fine display of rare nacreous clouds on 1st February 2016. They were not too spectacular from Sheffield, but here is a small sector of the sky which had some visible. The view is almost due south and I had to shield the camera from the sun by moving into the shadow of the buildings.
The photo was taken with a circular polarising filter but no post-processing.
