A memorial for Columbia-Haus; the building no longer exists. Columbia-Haus was a conversion of a former military prison by the Nazi party, in its earliest years. Initially a Gestapo prison, it was converted into a concentration camp. The prison, built to hold 150, typically had 450 inmates under the Nazi control. The concentration camp was closed in 1936 when a larger concentration camp was opened just outside Berlin; the building was demolished to make room for the expansion of the airport. Across the street from the northside of Tempelhof is the Columbia theater that was used by the US Air Force when Tempelhof was a US AF base. I could not find information on the building, but its streamline modern style would suggest that it was built in the 1930's.
