Rotterdam de Hef railroad bridge (#0143)

Rotterdam de Hef railroad bridge (#0143)
De Hef, a no longer used railway bridge. The bridge was first constructed in 1878 but the center section was originally a swing bridge which proved to be a problem and thus was replaced with a lift bridge in 1927. The rail line that crossed the bridge was (and is) a key route for trains going south; the bridge is no longer used because the rail line now goes through a tunnel.

After the bridge was no longer used there were plans to demolish it, but citizenry protested. From the information that I’ve found it seems that the bridge is considered important because it was one of the first structures rebuilt after the leveling of most of Rotterdam in WWII and is apparently considered to be a monument to that reconstruction.
