Imperial county Plank Road (#0771)

Imperial county Plank Road (#0771)
Sign describing the plank road that was the first road for crossing the Imperial Sand Dunes (Algodones dunes), used from 1914 to 1927. The plank section was 7 miles long and consisted of 8' by 12' sections that were moved by horses whenever shifting sands necessitated moving them. Subsequent photos provide more detail on the planks. Note that I first photographed this section in 2007; these photos provide more detail.
