Charleston View Mission of St. Thérèse - God and guns (0161)

Charleston View Mission of St. Thérèse - God and guns (0161)
The Mission of St. Thérèse, next to Charleston View and very close to the California/Nevada border (see description with adjacent picture).

When I saw the space for the mission in 2011 I wondered why such a place was being built in a very remote part of the desert, but it has been built. I wonder, though, how the developers now feel about the constant gunfire that greets you when visiting the site.

Just about 4 miles from the site, in Nevada, is the Front Sight Firearms Training Institute (see later picture). At the time of this visit, the sound of very rapid gunfire from assault rifles was a constant, making the area sound like a war zone. The mission seems to be trying to cover that warlike-sound with relatively loud religious music that is piped to all of the grounds, but hearing the rifles is unavoidable.

, have particularly liked this photo

Cold War Warrior
Just like Dore Abbey in Herefordshire, next door to an army training area. When we were there, the whole time we could hear the firecracker reports of blank ammunition and barked fieldcraft orders.

I just looked up Dore Abbey, that combination sounds fairly disturbing. What makes this disturbing (for me) is that the shooting range is a private business where consumers are private citizens and people involved as private guards. It's private nature means there is no public accountability regarding who it trains, or for what. Considering the current political environment, that's very worrisome.
