Berlin Soviet War Memorial Treptower (#2659)

An interesting, but seemingly almost out of place, nautically themed bronze wreath. There is no reference nearby as to the reason for the wreath, and the saying across the top has no nautical reference: “вечная слава павшим героям” / “Eternal glory to the fallen heroes”

Updated 8/19/2015: I should note that the overall monument predominantly speaks to fallen soldiers. The inclusion of this may have been intended as a way of referencing the deaths of sailors in the attack on Berlin, which must have occurred, given the number of vital waterways and the proximity of the Baltic Sea.
