Tehachapi Loop CA stall (1177)
The lead locomotive on the train was emitting much more smoke than usual. It's a UP train but the lead locomotive appears to be painted in the Norfolk Southern scheme.

It's been interesting over the last few decades how they now run the locomotives with different livery than the nominal rail line. They've done that with cars forever, of course, but it used to be that you could tell which railroad it was by the livery of the locomotives!

I've been surprised at how often this happens and would be interested in hearing some railfan comment on it. I think a good part of it is that it appears that increasingly the railroads are leasing locomotives from other lines.

I've figured that they decided it saved money not to bother swapping out locomotives!
