Palm Springs 2014 Gay Pride Festival. Booth for the annual AIDS bike ride from SF to LA. The AIDS ride has run continuously since 1994 but problems with the original coordinating organization resulted in it changing coordinating organizations and names, from AIDS Ride to AIDS Lifecycle. The ride takes 7 days and is aimed to raise funds for SF and LA area AIDS agencies and to increase awareness of AIDS.

There you go, thinking again that the 'little people' who invisibly do the actual work are somehow important! I think it's fairly universal that 'show' gets more attention than actual work, but it does seem that we Americans are particularly good at capitalizing on that. Besides, a big event means you get to have 'leaders' that get to advertise their political skills and an organization that creates a big salary-paying bureaucracy to run it.
