I have never heard of this and had no idea anything like this was here. Now I have to go to downtown Los Angeles.

The old part of downtown LA has quite a bit of interesting history. I'm taking this from just outside Grand Central Market (link below) where I'd had lunch with a friend. Grand Central has been in continuous operation since 1917 and was most interesting when it was still mostly cheap restaurants and food stalls. It is, unfortunately, currently being 'hipified', Just a block away is the Bradbury building, a wonderful creation of wrought-iron, built in 1893 (link further below). The hipster invasion is altering the contents of downtown, but generally preserving the structures. If you want to see it before it starts feeling like just another "Disneyfied" downtown, come while everything still looks a little messy.
