This and adjacent pictures are cars from the 'white train', which was a train for hauling nuclear weapons. Per the museum's website, all of the cars were initially painted white but then were repainted to other colors to avoid being quite so conspicuous. Regardless, on first seeing them, one gets a feeling that they were designed to hide something evil -- they looked very ominous.

And when my late FIL joined what was then the AEC in the late 40s, his first job was as a "courier." I.e., he was one of the dudes toting tommyguns that rode along with the "devices" on these trains! Late in his life he could finally tell some tales about those years--I wish I'd gotten them down.

When I was there I got a quite chilling feeling from realizing how much nuclear weapon material was being transported around with security that, by current standards, seems quite flimsy. Sure they had armed guards, but a well-placed suicidal truck driver could have created quite a mess.
