Division Creek Powerhouse 1601a
Division Creek Powerhouse near Independence, CA. It's surprising to come across power generating facilities in remote areas, though it makes sense since this is hydroelectric off a creek flowing down from the Sierras. What makes it seem even more unusual is that the facility is operated by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, LA is 200 miles to the south.
Update 2/22/2013: The first power plant to go into operation for Los Angeles was at this site, beginning operation in 1908. The structure in this picture was built at some later date. A picture of the first structure is on the following page:
