la grosse branche du coté gauche a disparu aujourd'hui !!!!!Sa hauteur est d’environ 25 à 28 mètres, sa circonférence à 1 m 50 du sol est de 7, 50 m. George Sand a écrit son roman en 1853 et d’après la description qu’elle en fait, il était déjà très endommagé par le temps, il aurait atteint sa maturité vers 1840.

Dans son roman “Les Maîtres Sonneurs” George Sand évoque ce chêne ; c’est là que Joset (personnage principal de ce roman) aurait entendu le son de la cornemuse pour la première fois et aurait décidé de devenir cornemuseux.
