Believe it or not, Cheryl, I think I took a few shots of this tunnel (it's near Castle Keep, isn't it?) in 2010, and none was as good as this. For one thing I was not as experienced a photographer than and I left too much light at the end of the tunnel. What I particularly like is the rhythm of the arcs of light, which get farther apart as they whizz up to and by the camera.

Even if it's not the same tunnel, you still did better than I did with mine.

Hello there John....how fascinating. This tunnel isn't far from the Castle Keep and has the same railway line running over it. It was really dank wet and dirty from the pigeons but I love places like this!! Were you visiting friends here or touring Britain?

Anyway I must say I am really flattered by your comments John. You have a lovely way with words.....no wonder a dictionary is one of your favourite books!!!

Hi, Cheryl. I was in Newcastle for a research workshop (and a quick trip to Norfolk to visit my relatives). I was very impressed, but haven't got back there yet. I checked out Newcastle on Google Street View before going, but that distorts the proportions of the streets. So my eyes were the size of saucers when I saw all the beautiful buildings in those elegantly proportioned streets. It reminded me of another of my favourite English cities, Norwich, where people also care about how their city looks (not as strong a trait in Toronto).

Well, that's decided it, I'm re-visiting Newcastle and Gateshead next time. Still don't know when next time is going to be, unfortunately.

Another similarity between Newcastle and Norwich is that the people are really easygoing.

Update: I took a different tunnel. But this is strikingly superior to mine.
