The Priory was the home of the Cartland family (brass founders) , one of whom was the novelist Barbara Cartland. By 1904 suburban Birmingham had reached the borders of The Priory's park , the house survived however until the 1940s when its last occupier Major Howard Cartland died. The Priory was originally called Bleak House, and the building illustrated in this pic was constructed c1845 by James Cartland to replace a c17th house.

This lodge still stands as No.142 Vicarage Road and is a GII listed building, but the big house went in the 1940s
