The Kernel
Ex-GWR 63 "The Kernel"
Colorado Sweet Gold LLC EMD SW-1. Colorado Sweet Gold is now an oil transshipment facility, formerly it was in the corn business. CSG does not appear to have its own reporting mark.
Built 12/1940, this 600hp unit with EMD construction #1235 was sold new to the Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern as it's $#233. It was purchased by the Great Western Railway of Colorado (GWR) 7/2/1959 along with another SW-1, and renumbered #63 on 7/63.
I am unsure when the GWR sold it to Colorado Sweet Gold, and if it did any service between GWR and CSG, perhaps at Coors Biotech as one of its sister locomotives did.
I happened upon this locomotive one day while driving through Johnstown, Colorado.
