teensy first chook egg

05 Aug 2010 86
Found this tiny, bean shaped egg in the chook house this week. I think it is the first attempt at egg laying by one of our younger hens. (shown next to one of the older hens' eggs)

chook kill II & Sandy

31 Jul 2010 36
We finally identified which of our Isa Brown hens was laying eggs with no shells (or with shells as thin as tissue paper), so... off with her head, and into the pot. The first chook we killed had yellow skin; this time it was pink.

big chook egg

Biggest we have had so far from our hens. It is almost 8cm long and weighs 96g. Can you get triple yolkers? It will be a special breakfast egg for our weekend guests.

yellow tailed black cockatoo

09 Oct 2010 80
A pair of these have been coming to our garden to eat the seeds on one of the trees. They are so shy, it is difficult to get close enough for a photo, so although they are huge, they are still hard to see in the pics.

Light Sussex roosters

31 Oct 2010 72
one of these lads will replace Russell, as we want more Light Sussex in the offpsring. Russell has too much ISA Brown in his blood, and we want to breed our chooks for both meat as well as eggs.
