hungry baby starlings
Every year a Common Starling lays its eggs in the deep hollow inside an old gate post. We still use the gate, hence the bolts you see going through the post. You can see the whole fence post in this photo (yes, under the cat!) and the eggs these chickies hatched from in this photo. Here the chicks have just hatched (some are concealed by the fence brace) and are keen for food.
