On The 'Road To Freedom'

Andreas Hofer, leader of the Tyrolean People's Uprising against the Bavarian and French occupation of his homeland in 1809. After being captured, he was condemned to immediate death on February 19, 1810 at Napoleon's behest.

The Tyrolean struggle caused a great stir in Europe at the time. It encouraged other European peoples to resist Napoleonic rule. After Napoleon's first abdication in 1814, Tyrol reverted to Austria.

The Monument was erected in 1892 on the Bergisel near Innsbruck, where the three great battles of the Tyroleans against the Bavarians and the French took place.

Andreas Hofer, Anführer des Tiroler Volksaufstands 1809 gegen die bayerische und französische Besetzung seiner Heimat. Nach der Gefangennahme wurde er am 19. Februar 1810 auf Geheiß Napoleons zum sofortigen Tode verurteilt.

Der Kampf der Tiroler erregte seinerzeit großes Aufsehen in Europa. Er bestärkte andere europäische Völker im Widerstand gegen die napoleonische Herrschaft. Nach der ersten Abdankung Napoleons 1814 fiel Tirol wieder an Österreich.

Das Denkmal wurde 1892 auf dem Bergisel bei Innsbruck errichtet, wo die drei großen Schlachten der Tiroler gegen die Bayern und die Franzosen stattfanden.

Eine gute Frage, die ich als 'Zugroaster' nicht aus dem Stegreif beantworten kann. (Das Thema 'Andreas Hofer' gehörte zwar zum Prüfungsstoff für die Erteilung der östereichischen Staatsbürgerschaft, aber nicht in solch einer Tiefe.)

Wikipedia schreibt (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politische_Farbe):

"Die Farbe Rot ist . . . seit langer Zeit ein Zeichen für Anspruch auf Herrschaft. Sie wurde zum ersten Mal . . . auf den Mützen der Jakobiner während der französischen Revolution im 19. Jahrhundert benutzt. Arbeiter der Seidenindustrie demonstrierten in roten Farben bei den Arbeiteraufständen von Lyon. In Deutschland fand die rote Flagge im Revolutionsjahr 1848 zum ersten Mal Gebrauch, wurde jedoch mit der Zeit von der schwarz-rot-goldenen Flagge . . . abgelöst."

oder an anderer Stelle (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rote_Fahne_(Symbol)):

"Die Rote Fahne . . . ist ein politisches Identifikationsemblem sozialdemokratischer, sozialistischer und kommunistischer Bewegungen, Organisationen oder Staaten – im Besonderen der revolutionären Linken – und Traditionselement der internationalen Sozialdemokratie sowie der Arbeiterbewegung. Als das früheste Beispiel für die Verwendung der Roten Fahne . . . gilt der Aachener Aufruhr vom 30. August 1830."

Insofern passt die Farbe 'rot' ganz gut zum Hofer. Denn zum ersten Tiroler Volksaufstand heißt es (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiroler_Volksaufstand):

"Die Zwangsaushebung von Rekruten für die Bayerische Armee führte schließlich zum Aufstand, der am 9. April 1809 in der Tiroler Hauptstadt Innsbruck begann. Wird der Aufstand bis heute meist als Freiheitskampf gegen bayerische und französische Fremdherrschaft und deren Kirchenkampf und Rekrutierungspraxis verstanden, zeigte dieser jedoch auch reaktionäre, antiaufklärerische Züge. So hatte sich Haspinger, ein Kapuzinerpater, der von der bayerischen Besatzung auch für Tirol eingeführten Pockenimpfung widersetzt, mit der Begründung, dadurch solle Tiroler Seelen „bayerisches Denken“ eingeimpft werden."
