1993 Audi Coupé 2.6E - K688 CAJ

1993 Audi Coupé 2.6E - K688 CAJ
This gorgeous Audi Coupé passed me yesterday whilst I was out on my bike in Northallerton. Luckily, it parked up in one of the nearby streets so I was able to get some decent photos of it.

Better still, I got to talk to the owner, a lovely old chap called Peter who it turns out has had this car from new. It has less than 72,000 miles on the clock and, as hopefully the photos show, it is in superb condition for a car that's now over 21 years old.

Paint is actually pearlescent white, which was an optional extra back in 1993 that added around £1,200 to the price of the car.

I did ask if he might ever sell it, but apparently his grandson has eyes on it and so will most likely be staying in the family when the owner finally stops driving.

Thanks for that and the fave Norm. Must admit I'd have been tempted by this one were he interested in selling! :)

Seems to be the right color? :-) I've only driven one Audi. My cousin had one and the brakes went out one weekend when he was over for a visit. I let him drive my car home and I rebuilt the master cylinder during the week and drove it back to him the following weekend. I also fixed a mystery water leak they were having when it rained. It was a nice driving car, but not near as sporty as this one!

I sure wish we got some of the models you have over there. I'd love to see the Scirocco come back here. I can only guess that they are afraid it will eat into the GTI sales.

Sadly, even when we do get something similar, they have to change it to our bad tastes. The Dodge Dart is basically a Fiat... but of COURSE they had to enlarge it for us Americans.

If you're talking about the 'new' Scirocco I have to say, much as I like how it looks, I do wish they'd let the name die and called it something else.

After a 16 year gap and with no design cues whatsoever to hark back to the earlier models they really should have let it go. You just need to look at how other manufacturers handled reinventing earlier icons to see how to do it better (Mini, Fiat 500, and the Beetle being good examples). Shame VW couldn't have done better! :(
