1970's Cadillac Sedan De Ville - Details Unknown

1970's Cadillac Sedan De Ville - Details Unknown
Can't give specific details on this one as it had the registration obscured.

However, from the body style I'm guessing it's a Fourth Generation model from either the late Seventies or early Eighties.

UPDATE: Thanks to Norm for confirming it's definitely a late Seventies model.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1979 based on the front grille. 1978 is very similar though. 1980 was a redesign year.

Thanks Norm for coming to the rescue once again, I'd thought the design remained as was through to 1984 ... so much for wikipedia! ;)

Yeah ... they list the fifth generation through 1984 and that's probably right. They lowered the front end and tweaked some things to make it more aerodynamic in 1980. That was right after the fuel prices tripled in the US and and if I remember right ... Caddy sales were pretty poor then and they had to do something to bring the buyers in. I suspect you could swap doghouses on any of those cars in that time period. Here's a 1980 and I think you can see how they isolated the center grille on it. Most of the differences in these cars are small changes in the trim, or something they did different with the taillights. If you ever wonder about the year of an American car ... it is often stamped on one of the taillight lenses (usually the right one).

Thanks Norm. I see the differences are quite significant when you look at the one in your link - the entire light configuration is altered from how it looks on the one I've posted.

They use to do a redesign about every two to three years with most car models and you could tell what year and kind of car it was from two blocks away. I think Caddy was more focused on you knowing it was a Caddy! Today ... they all look like Hondas from two blocks away! :-)
