SEBASTIAN HOFMULLER
6. January 1855 - 29. September 1923
German tenor
After he had joined a small touring company, he debuted in 1874 as a journeyman Anton in the operetta “Flotte Bursche” by Franz von Suppe at Munich Elysium Theatre. After working as a chorister at various stages southern Germany he caused a stir in 1878 in the role of a fisherman in the “ William Tell “ by Rossini at Stadttheater Mainz.
After further study he made his debut in 1879 as a lyric tenor as Lyonel in “Marta” by Flotow at Der Markt zu Richmond am Stadttheater Trier . From 1880 to 1889 he was a soloist at the court theater of Darmstadt,in both lyric and buffo roles. After a guest appearance in 1889 at the Dresden Court Opera .Cosima Wagner undertook Hofmüller as Wagner -Interpreten to the Bayreuth Festival in 1888, where he sang David in “ Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” ,He also sang “Tristan und Isolde” and “Parsifal “. In 1894, he also added Mime in “Ring des Nibelungenn.” , In 1890 he joined royal court opera at Dresden, where he remained for the next ten years .From 1900 to 1902 her went to the Court Theatre Schwerin , interrupted by a guest appearance’s. In 1902 he was a royal chamber singer at the Munich Court Opera , where until 1918 he was engaged in particular as a buffo singer.
