Series II Land Rover, Llanthony Priory, Monmouthshire 14 October 2015

Series II Land Rover, Llanthony Priory, Monmouthshire 14 October 2015
A 1966 registered Series II Land Rover, pretty much the same as the model I learned to drive in, in 1971, in the army. Ours had fuel tanks under each front seat, with a tap on the driver tank to switch over to the full one, this model has a conventional filler cap and tank.

Doesn't surprise me, too unglamorous compared to today's "SUVs". I think this one proves their ruggedness and reliability though. Do you recall the scene in 'Ice Cold in Alex' (1958) where the MPs are driving Anthony Quinn away from the hotel? As he looks back to the hotel, parked in the street is a Land Rover. Since the film is set after the fall of Tobruk in 1942, it seems Land Rover were also into making time machines, having introduced the vehicle in 1948!

Not so much artistic license as failure to prepare the scene thoroughly.
