Faqir Muhammad was a cook with the 7th Mule Company, RIASC. Son of Bahadur Khan, of Gujail, Jhelum, Pakistan; husband of Phullan Bi, of Gujail. The grave is aligned to face east, towards Mecca. A long way from home.

RIASC Mule Companies were based in Scotland and Wales for hill training for a possible invasion of Norway (which never took place). There are similar 1943 war graves for Mule Company soldiers in Scotland, who died of tuberculosis.

Llanfoist, or Abergavenny New Cemetery, was laid out in 1894 and landscaped as a Victorian park or garden. There are more modern extensions. It incorporated a chapel in the Victorian Gothic style. A notable "resident" is Alexander Cordell, ne George Alexander Graber and a prolific author, probably best known for his book 'Rape of the Fair Country'.
