Ickleton - St Mary Magdalene from SW

Ickleton - St Mary Magdalene from SW
The aisled Norman nave - evidenced in this view by the W door - was heightened in the C14 when the south aisle was also rebuilt to a wider design and the S porch was built; Victorian W window. The tower is early C14 but stands over a Norman crossing and the spire (restored in 1991-2) may be C13 in origin, as (according to The Buildings of England) there are signs that the timbers were dismantled and reused when the tower was rebuilt.
