Pale-Saddled Leucozona on Hogweed

Pale-Saddled Leucozona on Hogweed
This lovely little blue coloured Hoverfly is a female Pale-Saddled Leucozona - Leucozona glaucia - which I spotted feeding on Hogweed. It can be found from Ireland eastwards across all of Eurasia north of the foothills of the Himalayas, and North Africa. Hogweed - Heracleum sphondylium - is native to the UK (unlike the dangerous Giant Hogweed) and is a member of the carrot family. It can be found on waste or rough ground, along hedgerows etc. etc. and is attractive to a wide variety of insects. Spotted near Carr Mill Dam.
