Marmelade Fly on Cranesbill 'Miss Heidi'
The Marmelade fly - Episyrphus balteatus - is a type of small hoverfly which is widespread throughout Europe, North Africa and North Asia. This is a male which can be identified by the fact that their left and right eyes meet at the top of their heads (Holoptic).
The Flower is Geranium x oxonianum 'Miss Heidi' otherwise known as Cranesbill 'Miss Heidi' which is a hybrid perennial Geranium which produces masses of pink flowers with darker pink veining which appears in spring and continues into summer.
Seen at Three Sisters recreational area, near Wigan.
