Bullfinch - Pyrrhula pyrrhula
The Bullfinch - Pyrrhula pyrrhula - is a small, stocky, bird in the Finch family. Also known as the Eurasian Bullfinch and Common Bullfinch they breed across Europe and into temperate Asia but they will migrate further south in winter time. This is a female which has dull pink underparts compared to the male which has much brighter reddish underparts. They feed mainly on seeds and buds of fruit trees (making them a bit of a pest in orchards etc). This one was seen at Pennington Flash, Leigh, Lancashire.
