Virgin liveried 86242 'James Kennedy GC' stands at Warrington Bank Quay with a southbound service.
100 of the Class 86s were built in 1965-1966, known as AL6 at the time. E3101 - E3200, but it seemed that there were thousands of the things, especially south of Crewe.
Virtually ignored for most of their working lives but, as is usually the case, with just a handful remaining, it's something of an event when one turns up nowadays.

Named 'Diomedes', this Olympic Airways Airbus A300B4-100 SX-BEG, is seen at Heathrow.
Retired from Olympic Airways service in May 1998, it was converted to a freighter and saw service with Europe Airpost and DHL, before being scrapped at Cotswold Airport in 2011.

This little fella lives across the line in the former Crossing Keepers house at Saltcoats. He normally kept his distance but on this occasion he wandered into the cabin, had a look around and jumped up onto the table. When he was satisfied I meant him no harm, he curled up and fell asleep.
