... a timely capture ... looks ungainly, but if it "flies" it is therefore graceful ...
maybe there is a reason for an aircraft this big (other than: "mine is bigger than yours"): economies in scale? ...

Many thanks for the comments. The aircraft was built for transporting rocket boosters and the 'Buran' Space Shuttle. It's now used for moving super heavy loads around the world. I believe the maximum load it carried was something around 600 tons... A second airframe was started but never completed. I've seen mention of reinstating this second machine, but I don't think we'll see it any time soon.
