Rich International Airways, call sign 'Richair', was a Miami based cargo and charter outfit. N319EA, a Lockheed L1011 Tristar 1, moves out at Frankfurt. The firm went bust less than 1 year after this photo was taken.

I heard once from a friend at Boeing that the DC-10 bears an ... uncanny... resemblance to the L-1011. ;) Too bad--it was Lockheed's last attempt to remain a player in commercial aviation.

Whilst a regular sight at the time, the Tristar never attracted the orders that Lockheed wished for; and just 250 were built, as against the 446 DC-10s. Lockheed fared better with orders from the military. The Hercules, Galaxy and Blackbird spring to mind.

I don't believe I've ever seen one of these, always thought them an attractive aircraft.
