Verkiezingen - Elections

Verkiezingen - Elections
Saturday Self Challenge: Heldere kleuren

Saturday Self Challenge: Bright colours

Posters for different political parties, on 17 March there are elections for the Second Chamber (Lower House) of the Dutch Parliament. The Netherlands has proportional representation, which means that a vote cast in one part of the country carries the same weight as a vote cast in another part. There is no electoral threshold.

Bij1 (2Gether as one) is a party focused on 'radical equality and economic justice'. Currently, this party has one seat in the Amsterdam city council.
Volt Nederland (the poster says Second Chamber, First Choice) is the Dutch branch of Volt Europa. Volt takes a pan-European approach in different policy areas such as climate, migration and inequality. Currently, the German section has one seat in the European parliament.

According to the polls, these two parties have a chance of winning one or two seats in the Chamber (150 seats), there are 35 other parties to choose from. Currently there are 13 parties represented in the Chamber.

Well, they are designed to get your attention. I would like to see some proportional representation in my country but I don't know about having over 35 parties.

There is a risk for too much fragmentation but the cabinet with a majority of 1 held out for nearly the whole term.
In 1977 the biggest 3 parties held 131 seats which was extreme high, in 2017 these parties have 61 seats, In 2017 the biggest four got 91 seats.

We do have a 5% threshold so you have to think twice about voting for very small parties. We have the Greens, Volt and Klimaliste (Fridays for Future basically) more or less in the same corner. If the last two stay below 5% right wing parties will profit...

Nicely colourful! Our election posters don't look that attractive, even Volt Germany's are rather boring. We have elections in our Bundesland on the 14th, I used postal vote weeks ago:-)

Because of the lockdown there are some measures, one of them is voting by mail but that's only for 70+.
