San Agustín Forest Spirit

San Agustín Forest Spirit
An early culture that existed near San Agustín, Colombia carved many idols and statues, some which were on display in a beautiful forest glade.

This image from Kodak slide was shot from a Yashica ELECTRO 35CC, scanned by an HP Scanjet G4050 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Uno de los placeres de viajar es aprender sobre las culturas antiguas que alguna vez existieron.

I'm surprised they have not been stolen and sold on the black market.

They could (evidently) only be sold on the green market.....

Many of the sites were plundered and looted of their gold and silver artifacts. I guess this has happened in all countries around the world spanning human existence. When I was in San Agustín there were several teams of professional archaeologists excavating in this protected area which was visited by both Colombian and foreign visitors. The site was accessible by a 8+km-long hike or horse ride.

I suppose if you had enough green you might be able to negotiate something . .
Then what to do with a 300kg statue in your suitcase . . .
