Elisa Wiborg by Waldemar Dahllöf
Elisa Wiborg (1867-1938); Norvegian soprano. She made her debut in 1889 as a concert singer in Leipzig. Her stage debut was in 1890 as Marguerite in Gounod's "Faust". Afterwards she specialised in Wagner and she was regarded as one of the greatest interpreter of Wagnerian roles of her time. In the 1890s she performed a number of years at the "Bayreuther Festspiele" and especially her Elisabeth in "Tannhäuser" was highly valued. In 1896 she sang in Moscow at the Coronation Festivities of Czar Nicolas II. She retired in 1909.
