Cabooses were attached to the end of a train. The staff inside had to keep an eye on the train and overheating axles. Changing safety rules made them redundant.

Fort York was established in 1793 to protect the city of York, which was later to become Toronto. The fort was partly burnt down in the War of 1812, now it is a National Historic Site of Canada. Some quarters have been restored/rebuilt.
