Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel 2022 – Gates

Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel 2022 – Gates
Prisoners where brought in or out often through the small gate, to another prison or camp or to be shot.

The prison at Scheveningen was used by the Germans in the Second World War to house their prisoners. Around 25,000 people stayed here. It had the nickname Oranjehotel (Hotel Orange) because of the large number of people of the resistance who were imprisoned here, orange being the colour of the Netherlands.
Before the war the prison was used for prisoners on remand, but during the war people stayed longer and more people were kept in one cell.
