Chania 2021 – Byzantine and Postbyzantine Collection of Chania – Saint Mammes of Caesarea

Chania 2021 – Byzantine and Postbyzantine Collection of Chania – Saint Mammes of Caesarea
Mammes of Caesarea was born around 259AD of Christian parents who were in prison. When his parents were martyred, he was raised by a rich widow called Ammia, who died when he was 15. Afterwards he was tortured for his Christian faith. He was thrown to the lions, but he could make them docile by preaching to them (don't try this at home). He was sentenced to death by emperor Severus Alexander. He died around 275AD.
