Leipzig 2019 – Südfriedhof – Grave monument for father and son Schwalbe

Leipzig 2019 – Südfriedhof – Grave monument for father and son Schwalbe
The son of Dr. med. Karl Gustav Schwabe, Ludwig Schwabe, himself a doctor too, died on the island of North Keeling. He was the ship's doctor on the Emden, a German war ship which was attacked by the Australian light cruiser Sydney, during the Battle of Cocos. Ludwig lost his foot and had a hole in his back as a result of shrapnel. He managed to get to the island, but he died from lack of water. He was buried there, but his father made this monument and was later buried beside him.
