Leipzig 2017 – Plagwitz – Former Philipp Swiderski Maschinenbaufabrik
The machine factory of Leipzig 2017 – Plagwitz – Former Philipp Swiderski was founded in 1867. In 1888 this factory was built. In 1953 the GDR took over the factory, making it a state company. It was closed after the Wende. Some of the buildings have been demolished. Plagwitz was a small town on the outskirts of Leipzig, first named in 1483. In 1891 it became part of Leipzig. From 1854 it was transformed into a industrial area, with many factories, canals and railroad tracks. After the Wende most of the old factories were closed. Now the area is slowly redeveloping.
