Rotterdam 2015 – De Hef
Between 1877 and 1993 the railway line from Amsterdam to Antwerp ran through Rotterdam on an elevated line. There were bridges to cross the River Meuse and the harbours. One of these bridges is the vertical-lift bridge, colloquially known as “De Hef” (The Lift) and officially as Koningshavenbrug (King’s Harbour Bridge). When the railway went underground, the Hef was kept as a monument.
