Indeed, it derives from the motto of the house of Orange-Nassau, which was originally "Je maintiendrai Chalon", later "Je maintiendrai Nassau" and later just "Je maintiendrai". The Dutch Republic had the motto "Concordia res parvae crescunt", but at the start of the Dutch kingdom in 1815, the motto "Je maintiendrai" was chosen.

"Concordia res parvae crescunt", "in harmony small things grow", perhaps?

Maybe they should have had J'attendrai, mein kapitan ;¬)

Small states flourish by concord. It is derived from the work of Sallust (86–35 BC), also simplier "Unity makes strength". The Dutch Republic consisted of seven provinces, which could be quite independent and there was no strong central control.
