Academiegebouw – Staircase tower

Academiegebouw – Staircase tower

The staircase tower is an addition from 1616.

In use since 1581 by Leiden University. Before that it was a Dominican cloister, but the nuns left when Leiden turned protestant. Apparantly the university has no proof of ownership, but the nuns haven't claimed it back.
