Hand pump of the primer pump of a Bosch M diesel injection pump

The primer pump is driven by the camshaft of the injection pump. Its function is to pump diesel from the tank to the high-pressure area of the diesel injection pump. There is a hand pump so that you can pump the air out if you've run dry.

As you can see, it is all mechanical.
