Gebruik Touw
"Gebruik Touw" means "Use Rope". This sewer cover was made by the Dutch iron company Touw brothers, in Dutch you abbreviate that to "Gebr. Touw". If you don't know that abbreviation, for instance because you are young, you might think it means "gebruik touw".
The Gebr. Touw company was an iron works from the 19th century. It was located in Breda (Brabant) in the Belcrum neighbourhood. People of that neighbourhood complained for years about the stench and smoke coming from the factory. The provincial government didn't listen, but the economic recession of the 1980s came to the rescue of the inhabitants. The company went broke in 1983.
