Lokhorst Church – Mitterreither-Van Dam Organ

Lokhorst Church – Mitterreither-Van Dam Organ
I went to the Lokhorst Church to attend a small concert. They played works of J.S. Bach, Heinrich Schütz, Michel Blavet and Alessandro Stradella. The performing artists were Dorien van Rumt (alto), Karin Theulings (transverse flute) and Jan Verschuren (organ). Verschuren is the organist of Leiden University.

The organ dates from 1774 and was expanded in 1807. The organ was restored in 1999. More info: www.doreleiden.nl/Lokhorst/orgel1.asp (in Dutch)

The Lokhorst Church is a church from the 17th century built on the lands of the family Van Lockhorst. It was used by the anabaptists, who had to keep their church hidden from the street until 1795, consequently the interior is much more impressive then the exterior.

There are concerts in this church every Wednesday until June 27, from 12.30pm until 1pm. Free entrance. For more info see here: www.doreleiden.nl/concerten/inloopconcerten.asp

You can hear the organ play on this small youtube film (30 seconds) www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2XrX5YmjH0

Normally these concerts are held in the Academy Building, but that is being renovated.
