The Company of Merchant Taylors - The Company is one of seven guilds in the City of York whose origin dates back to the 13thCentury and one of only three that have existed without a break since medieval times. Ordinances and members' register are in the City archives of 1387. The Merchant Taylors' Hall, built six centuries ago within the medieval city wall, is one of the most remarkable memorials to the City's medieval past. York, UK

The multi-angular Tower is so-named after its 10 sides. It stood at the south-western corner of the Roman legionary fortress and is the only surviving one of eight similar towers. The distinctive bands of terracotta tiles which were used to decorate the walls can still be seen. The top 3 metres of stone including arrow slits were added during the 13th century. York, UK.
